HISTORY

The Martin Luther King Jr. Historic District is a national treasure that honors the life, legacy, and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the leader of the American Civil Rights Movement.

Located in Atlanta’s historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood, the district preserves many of the places where Dr. King lived, worked, worshipped, and inspired a nation through his message of peace, equality, and justice.

The district is home to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, including his birthplace, Ebenezer Baptist Church, The King Center, and numerous historic landmarks connected to his extraordinary life.
